Event Photos for Community Band Festival

Community Band Festival 5/15/1999 Turn-of-the Century California comes alive at Old Poway Park.  Tour historic buildings, visit the Heritage Museum and see life as it once was.  Walk among the peach orchards or enjoy a peaceful picnic on the beautifully maintained grounds.&

Welcome one and all to the sixth Annual Community Band Festival. The Pomerado Community Band is proud to be able to bring such a diverse and exciting group of musicians to the beautiful Old Poway Park Gazebo. Community bands have been active in America since the country was young. In fact, one of the bands here this weekend has been performing for 124 years. Made up of volunteer musicians, these bands are as distinct as the communities from which they come. Swing bands and German Oom pah groups are as common as traditional concert bands, with personnel ranging in ages from their teens to great grandparents. Some bands are entities of their own, and others are part of community college districts and adult education programs. Regardless of their structure, the one thing these bands have in common is the member’s love of, and dedication to music. Some members had their music careers begin as early as elementary school, most played in high school and college, and some are music teachers themselves.

Thank you for joining us this weekend to share our music with you. I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank the members of the Pomerado Community Band who helped me plan this year's Festival. I couldn't have done it without them!
